Things to know about Ketosis and Ketoacidosis

Ketosis is a state which your body enters when you are trying to lose weight either through
the keto diet or any other ways like fasting. It is the presence of ketones in your body.
Ketoacidosis also known as Diabetic Ketoacidosis or DKA on the other hand is a very
complex condition of diabetes. It is common in patients who have type 1 diabetes and rare
in type 2 diabetes patients however, it can sometimes happen. DKA is a very dangerous
condition which if not treated immediately can lead to various problems such as
unconsciousness, swelling in the brain, and diabetic coma which can lead to death.

When your body is in the state of ketosis it uses fats rather than sugar as a source of energy.
DKA can occur suddenly in your body. One day you might be fine and the next day may start
seeing symptoms of ketoacidosis. If you see the symptoms of ketoacidosis you must see the
doctor as soon as a possible cause if not it can lead to various health problems. Some of the
symptoms are bad breath, headache, stomachache, dry mouth and skin, nausea, vomiting,
and fatigue. Ketosis is usually triggered when you are hungry and trying to complete a task,
or when you consume a diet low in carb or keto diet. However, the triggers for ketoacidosis
include a lack of insulin in the body. It can also be triggered if you have an illness or disease
or if you consume too much alcohol. You must get treated for symptoms of DKA
immediately.
